Woodstock sits near the middle of Oxford County, on rolling ground cut by the Thames.
Hills of loam, flats that stay wet
A 1961 federal soil survey of Oxford County mapped a field of drumlins north and south of the city. Drumlins are low, rounded hills left by glaciers. The soil on them mixes loam and silt loam, made from soft brown limestone.
Next to the hills, the survey found wetter soils on flat ground, where water drains away slowly. On those flats, your crew waits for a dry spell before running a mower, so the lawn doesn't rut.
The Thames runs right through town
The same survey says the main branch of the Thames flows through a deep glacial spillway that runs through Woodstock. In the north end, the Pittock Dam holds back the Pittock Reservoir. It was finished in 1967 to cut flooding and keep the river flowing in dry summers.

- Fall leaves. City crews pick up loose leaves at the curb, zone by zone, when the weather allows. Rake to the curb, not the boulevard. Bagged leaves get left behind.
- Yard Waste Depot. The depot at 944 James St. is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It takes grass, leaves, weeds and hedge clippings up to 7 cm thick. Bags go home with you.
- Weed spraying. Ontario bans most cosmetic pesticides on lawns, so our partner crews don't spray.
